How the calculation works
UK units = volume in ml × ABV (%) × servings ÷ 1,000
A 500 ml serving at 5% contains 25 ml of pure alcohol, or 2.5 UK units. The same serving is approximately 1.41 US standard drinks or 1.97 Australian standard drinks. These are different measures of the same alcohol amount, not different recommendations.
For gram-based measures, this calculator uses an approximate ethanol density of 0.789 g/ml. US fluid ounces use 29.5735 ml; UK fluid ounces use 28.4131 ml. Results are rounded for display, not between calculation steps.

Use the actual label and serving size when you know them. A cocktail needs its alcoholic ingredients counted individually; the strength of the spirits is not the strength of the entire mixed drink.
What this number does not tell you
This is an alcohol-content estimate, not a personal safe limit, blood alcohol estimate or driving clearance. It does not account for your health, medicines or circumstances.
