Alcohol spending calculator

Small purchases can be easy to overlook. See the cost of a weekly routine over a longer period.

Per week$24.00
Average month$104.00
Per year$1,248.00

Values stay in this tab and are not saved or sent. Changing currency changes the label, not an exchange rate.

The assumptions behind the estimate

The starting example is four servings a week at $6 each: $24 a week, $104 per average month and $1,248 a year. The calculator assumes 52 similar weeks. Actual spending will vary with holidays, prices and changes in routine.

Monthly estimate = weekly spending × 52 ÷ 12

Four weeks are not quite a calendar month. Using 52 ÷ 12 gives an average monthly figure that agrees with the annual estimate.

What if you buy a bottle or a multipack?

Match the cost to the amount used. A $12 bottle with six equal pours costs $2 per pour. A $10 four-pack costs $2.50 per can. If you want a cash budget instead, record the full purchase on the day you pay. Keep the same method throughout your comparison to avoid counting the same cost twice.

From an estimate to a record

For a mixed week, an average can hide the difference between drinks at home and drinks out. In AlcoList, prices are optional on individual entries, so your period totals can reflect the prices you actually record.
